Hey everyone,
I've been struggling with hair loss for a few months now, and my dermatologist suggested trying Propecia. I'm curious about the dosage. Should I start on 1 mg or go straight to 5 mg? Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Hi HairMaster98,
Great question! Propecia is indeed one of the most effective treatments for male pattern baldness. The standard dosage is 1 mg per day, which has been shown to be highly effective in clinical trials for hair regrowth and preventing further loss.
Starting with the 1 mg dose allows your body time to adjust without potential side effects that might come from a higher starting point. It’s generally recommended to start at this level and monitor how you respond over several months before considering an increase, if necessary.
If you see significant improvements or stabilize hair loss, there may be no need for a higher dosage. However, always consult with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your treatment plan.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions!

Thanks DrSmoothie, that’s really helpful info. I'll start with the 1 mg and see how things go.
Do you have any tips on lifestyle changes or other supplements to use alongside Propecia? My dermatologist mentioned a few but I want to double-check.

Of course, HairMaster98!
While Propecia is effective on its own, there are some lifestyle changes and additional supplements that can help support your hair health:
- Diet: Ensure you're eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals like biotin, zinc, iron, and vitamin D.
- Exercise: Regular physical activity improves blood circulation, which can aid in healthy hair growth.
- Stress Management: High stress levels can exacerbate hair loss, so try to incorporate relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation into your routine.
- Supplements:
- Biotin: Often found in multivitamins but can also be taken separately. Biotin is known for promoting stronger hair and nails.
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Found in fish oil supplements, these help nourish the scalp and promote a healthy environment for your hair to grow.
- Vitamin D: Some studies suggest that vitamin D deficiency can lead to hair loss. A supplement might be beneficial if you're deficient.
Remember, it’s important to consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new supplements or making significant lifestyle changes, especially when combining them with medications like Propecia. They can provide personalized advice and ensure there are no interactions or contraindications.
Feel free to reach out if you have more questions!
