Forum Thread: Prednisone Prescription Options

Posted by: SunlitJourneyHey everyone,

I've been dealing with some severe allergies that have just been getting worse. My regular doc prescribed me a short course of prednisone but it’s quite pricey at the local pharmacy. I was thinking about ordering from Canada to save on costs since prices seem lower there. Has anyone done this before and if so, what are your experiences?

Ordering medications online can be a tricky business. Before you consider getting prednisone from any source, especially outside of the US, it’s important to verify the legitimacy of the pharmacy and ensure that the medication is safe and effective.

In general, I advise against buying prescription drugs online without first consulting your healthcare provider. Prednisone in particular should only be used under a doctor's supervision because it can have serious side effects if not taken correctly.

Thanks for the advice! It’s just that my insurance isn’t covering much of the cost, and I really need the relief. Are there any trusted Canadian pharmacies you know of? Or is it better to stick with the US pharmacies even if it means paying more?

I understand your concern about costs, but safety should be your top priority when dealing with prescription medications like prednisone. I would recommend discussing alternative options or cost-saving measures directly with your doctor.

If you still want to explore cheaper options, there are legitimate Canadian pharmacies that operate legally and can ship to the US. However, always check if they have proper accreditation (look for the VIPPS certification from NABP) before making a purchase.

In any case, make sure you discuss this with your healthcare provider first to ensure it’s safe.

I’ve used Canadian pharmacies in the past and had good experiences. Just be super careful about which ones you use! DrSmooth is right; check for certifications like VIPPS from NABP. Also, double-check that your doctor approves of any alternative sources before proceeding.

Thanks both for the advice. I'll definitely look into Canadian pharmacies with proper accreditation and talk to my doc about it first. Just wanted to make sure I was being smart about it. Any other suggestions or tips are more than welcome.

Absolutely, feel free to ask if you have any more questions. Always prioritize your safety and the effectiveness of the treatment. If cost is a significant issue, discussing financial assistance programs with your doctor could also be a viable option. Some drug manufacturers offer help for patients who qualify based on income.

Good luck with managing your allergies, and please take care!
